Playa vs Categories

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any performance gain/loss of using playa over a category base site approach? Does it scale nicely?

I like the idea of using playa over a category based site because of the publish workflow. There is a ton of fields and I'd like to keep the data entry process in a logical sequence, rather than one category tab or custom publish layout with a ton of different category groups and categories that disrupts the workflow. I rather use each "category group" as a playa field to align correctly with the steps to fill out an entry.
