EE 1.7.1
MSM
FF 1.4.5
Wygwam 2.1.2
Matrix 2.2.2.1
Going through and adding new sections / field groups / templates to my client's 7 sites for a launch next week. Everything was working smoothly until about 4 sites in, and upon saving a custom field, it appeared the connection dropped to the server (non-loading page). I refreshed and it appeared to have saved the custom field which includes matrix with wygwam. I then continued to finish the rest of the group. It ended up throwing an error when I eventually tried to save the entry related to this, and also gives me the following error on the front facing page:
MySQL ERROR:
Error Number: 1064
Description: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ORDER BY row_order ASC' at line 5
Query: SELECT row_id, col_id_462, col_id_463 FROM exp_matrix_data WHERE field_id = 1417 AND entry_id = ORDER BY row_order ASC
I did a few searches that suggest trying to clear cache, remove the field group, etc. I did clear cache, but am unable to remove the field group. Renaming the field group also appears to work to make room for a duplicate field group test (on a time crunch and was hoping to come back to this), but upon a full successful load of an entry within this new group, the error on the page itself persists.
Dropping to a backup will kill about a days work. Is it possible to clean up the DB by hand? Seems like something is empty somewhere or thinks it needs something it doesn't.

Hi Chris,
Sounds like the entry_id cell somehow went missing. Try to find the entry you're viewing in exp_weblog_titles and exp_weblog_data, and see if it has an entry_id. -

Brandon, I ended up reverting back to the backup and rehashing the work. Not ideal but I wasn't sure how quickly I could get to the bottom of the db errors. It does seem like the problem was that EE was in the middle of saving something and maybe the internet dropped or the connection to the server fell out, and somehow only some of the fields were saved.
I've never had this happen but I imagine it does and obviously can. If it does again—for me or anyone else—what's the best course of action? -

I wish I knew. We had a similar issue the other day when saving Wygwam’s entry in our EE install – the page started returning a 404 on our front end, and we had to go in and re-enter some data, and re-save it.
I’d suggest you talk to EllisLab but they’re probably going to tell you to upgrade to EE2 – I can’t imagine they’re still worrying about fixing bugs in EE1. -

If updating an MSM site with 7 sites live was only that easy to update, I think I'd be first in line! Thanks for your thoughts.
