Matrix outputting tag names

Running into a weird problem where part of the matrix single tags are being revealed on the live page.



Behavior is inconsistent. In other instances, some of the surrounding html is being broken. Here some of teh closing blockquote tag is being removed.



The problem persists even when clearing out a field. (top blockquote has an empty field).



The tag pair in the template code looks like this:

			{conflict_witness}

				<p>{witness_context}</p>

				<blockquote class="witness-quote">

					{witness_quote}

				</blockquote>

			{/conflict_witness}

We're running version 2.2.2.1.
