Hi there, really impressed so far, well done.
The main thing Assets seems to be missing for me compared to the default file manager is the ability to edit images.
My clients really need this functionality as they often upload really large images and just don't have the knowledge to resize them prior to uploading. If I tell them to use the File Manager to do this instead of Assets then files which have been placed in a subfolder aren't visible to the default file manager so at the moment this is a bit of a roadblock.
I'm guessing you have this in the pipeline? Just wondering if it's days/weeks/months away?
Best regards,
Oisin

I think Ellislab might also have gotten the edit-part a bit wrong. You usually want to crop / resize when placing a file, not specifically when uploading a file. So if this is indeed getting built, how about making it possible when selecting a file ("Edit new instance of this file before placing?")...

That's a good point although the initial resize is convenient too as sometimes my clients upload images straight from their digital camera... obviously MUCH bigger than they will ever need. This is a worst case scenario but it does happen believe it or not!

Steven it's a deal, now if P&T could say yay or nay... I'd even be happy with a maybe!

Dear Brandon,
We have just unanymously agreed that you will build this for us ;).
Any thoughts on this brandon?
Thnx! -

+1 as well
Just having to use Channel Images and Wygwam because of image resizing.
Would be great to offer a one-stop shop for image handling with Assets. Write post -> upload image -> resize/crop image -> publish entry -> ;-) -

Hey guys,
Image resizing is definitely planned in some form. At the very least, Assets needs to respect your upload directory’s Max Image Width/Height settings, which it currently ignores.
Beyond that, I’m not sure exactly what the right route is yet. It might just be to add an {exp:assets:resize} tag that mimics Imagesizer’s functionality, so the extra plugin isn’t needed. -
-
Yeah but you're not always in a position to place those tags around it, say when hooking Wygwam up to Assets for example... Dribbble-style cropping and resizing on placement and upload would be awesome!

A tag like imagesizer or ce_img would certainly be useful but it's the inline content that needs resizing functionality.
With this Assets will be a full replacement for the File Manager and a default for every EE install! -

I'm a little reluctant to give up CE_Image. Maybe you could hook Assets up to CE_Image like DevDemon did with Channel Images...

+ 1 to this. I'm new to EE and have got Assets, Matrix and Wygwam pretty much days after getting EE. They are awesome modules and have helped greatly! However, my client wants to be able to crop/resize/etc when placing images from Asset manager in to a Wygwam textarea. At the moment, we can't.
I have bought CE Image as well (looks like I'm following a well trodden path here!) but like has been mentioned about; it's great for template images but doesn't work when placing images into Wygwam :( -
-
As an interim solution I wonder is there any php script that can do the following:
1. examine an img tag like this
< img src="image.jpg" height="200" width="300" >
2. resize the image.jpg file to these dimensions
3. deliver the resized file.
I know that in effect this is what CE_image does but would it be possible to do it on the fly with Wygwam content? -
-
Hey guys,
Just saw that a new plugin has been released which allows CE Image to work in text entry fields such as textarea and WYSIWYG fields like Wygwam.
This would solve most of the problems listed in this thread. Great huh!

Any progress on this feature? I'd love that Assets looks at the max width/height settings of a directory.

I'd love to see progress on this front as well... the problem for us isn't the cropping resizing in different instances for different output... it's the fact that we don't need 12 MP source JPGs on the server.

Chiming in here. The problem for me is that when a user uploads a 12MB image to the server, and it's run through CE Image afterwards, PHP runs out of memory and a small kitten dies. If the uploaded image could be resized to the max-size of the EE upload location, it would be awesome.

This is a planned feature for the next major version of Assets. Can't give you an ETA yet though, sorry.
