I am having problems installing Wygwam -
I followed the instructions and can add Wygwam to a field but when I go to create/edit entryall I see is an empty white space. No Wygmam editor is visible. I can't type into this space either. I checked the underlying code and there is just an empty tag, so I assume that it's not a css/theme issue. Just in case I had a look at the troubleshooting and I believe my theme is in the correct place.
I am missing CK Editor or something? Documentation seems very sketchy. All I can see are instructions to copy the two Wygwam directories across and install the add on.
Please note, I am able to edit/create editor configurations and can see all the tools being rendered as in the following path.
CP Home Modules Wygwam Edit Configuration - Full
I'd appreciate help please.
I have successfully installed Playa and Matrx without any issues.

Yes thanks, although I have to say that EE generally is one of the poorest platforms I've encountered when it comes to documentation. It seems that at some stage in the past, somebody decided that the norm would be to produce the bare minimum of documentation and thereafter for folks to rely almost entirely on experimentation and appeals for help to the community.
Perhaps I'm spoilt having developed mostly for the MS platform and citing that as an example, take a look at Telligent's ageing Community Server platform, which is almost identical to EE having adopted CP and Tag approach. The difference is that every tag is thoroughly documented with numerous worked examples and lots of reusable code snippets.
Compare that to the EE offering 5 years on and we appear to have gone backwards in terms of what level of documentation is deemed acceptable.
But of course it's not going to change. Developers, chasing revenue, understandably release stuff soon after it's code complete and thereafter new feature momentum takes the place of documenting what already exists.
That's fine for those in the know, but I can't see this approach will do much to encourage new blood into the community, which is a shame as there is much to like about EE in general, but you’ve got to know it in depth it to love it.
I did suspect this to be the case when I watched the product video on the EE homepage. 2 minutes of product detail and the rest dedicated to high level gloss and praise for the community (that’s going to support you....).
In saying that P&T’s products look very good, but the documentation caveats stand. It would be great to see some more front end documentation, in particular how much CP functionality (drag and drop etc) can be exposed to normal users using Safecracker. (Isn’t it about time someone renamed SC? It only serves to inform new users like me, that EE is a back end CP Editor with lots of fiddling required to expose crud operations on the front end... hardly a good selling point)
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me and I’ll leave you with a wish list item to allow Playa to show more than one field in the drag and drop selection list
Many thanks

Hi Chris,
We’re committed to providing good documentation for all of our add-ons. In light of your issue here, I just added a new section to Wygwam’s Troubleshooting page, dealing with JavaScript errors in general, but using this specific Channel Images issue as an example, since it’s probably the most common.
If you have any other specific areas that you felt the documentation could have been more clear, I’d love to hear it.
Speaking of opportunities for better elaboration, I have no idea what “allow Playa to show more than one field in the drag and drop selection list” means... -

Thanks for the response Brandon -
Regarding documentation, I purchased the Mijingo Playa Tutorial which was helpful, shame the community can't sponsor more of these because it helps to see the products in action, especially those that are configured on the back end, meaning there's little chance of being given CP login on a demo site.
Yep, my wish list request was a little vague. What I meant was that it would be useful to allow the user to define 2 or more fields which are used to identify the selectable entries in the Playa drag and drop control.
So for example if I had an entry called Saturday from a channel called Days of the Week, I'd like to be able show it as Days of the Week: Saturday.
Hope that now makes sense.
Perhaps whilst you are here you could help me understand if I can render the CP Playa and Matrix field types in the front end. I'm using Zoo Visitor and ideally want to allow users to configure their own entry relationships using SAEF/SafeCracker.
I believe Zoo Visitor exposes the user's profile channel entry form (as seen in the CP) on the front end, however, I am not sure if it will also render 3rd party add ons such as Playa.
Any input you can give on this would be helpful.
Many thanks,
Chris. -

Brandon, bearing in mind I only purchased EE and the P&T suite yesterday, I am still struggling to understand how EE ties everything together.
I've just been looking looking in more detail at Zoo Visitor and I've probably thrown you a red herring as their example profile template is simply a pair of tags encasing other field tags. I was assuming after reading their product feature page that they would render a server control to the front end UI which in turn attempted to render a copy of their CP Zoo profile edit form. It appears that this is not the case.
So leaving Zoo out of the scenario, my question regarding Playa is whether the drag and drop control can be rendered in the front end, just as it is in the CP, or do we have to take a different approach?
Thanks again

Hey Chris,
For your Playa request, are you referring to how you’d like your Days Of The Week entries to look from within a Playa field? As in, if you have another channel that has a Playa field pulling entries from DOTW, you’d like the entries to show up as “Day of the Week: DayName”, rather than just “DayName”?
If I got you right, then no that’s not possible, sorry. Only entry titles will show up. You’d have to hack Playa to get anything else in there.
Regarding your SafeCracker question, SafeCracker is able to display any field exactly the same as it looks on the Publish page using the {field:field_name} tag. So if you have a Playa field called “weekday”, you can get it to show up by placing {field:weekday} within your {exp:safecracker} tag pair. -
