When you place the Assets fieldtype in a tab other than the one initially visible, the Assets fieldtype fails to initialize and is grayed out.
Try and put the assets field in the options tab to recreate the issue.

This is also the case if the field is collapsed (twirled up).

Glad you made this comment, I had the same problem and asked a similar question. Decided to just put the Assets panel on first Tab that loads in the Channel in CPComment

I did that too since that's the only way to get it to work. It so happens the channel I was using Assets on had quite a bit of fields on it and having assets on the first tab really messes with the usability of the publish form. I hope this gets fixed soon.

I'm able to reproduce this, only when the Assets field is set to List view. I'll look into a fix. -

Hey guys, just a heads up. I was able to fix this bug locally, so it’ll make it into Assets 1.1.4, which should be coming out tomorrow.

Will we need to uninstall the Assets module to upgrade to 1.1.4
or just overwrite the Assets files on the Server. (system & themes)?
